Carter and Kathleen

Kathleen* met her Wire Fox Terrier in a very 21st century way: Facetime. When Kathleen’s previous Wire Fox Terrier passed away, she waited a year and a half to adopt again. When she was ready, Kathleen visited Petfinder, which led her to the Fox Terrier Fanciers of Puget Sound Rescue Unit. Because all of the pups at the organization were spoken for, Kathleen’s application was forwarded (on behalf of the organization) to rescue units in Houston and Southern California.

Within days, Kathleen heard from the Houston organization, and they had Cody available for adoption. Kathleen explains: “Many people have asked how I knew that I wanted to adopt him. My answer is that we met on Facetime.”

In January 2012, Cody arrived on Continental Airlines from Houston. “Even though I had two weeks to agree to the adoption, I knew immediately that I would keep him,” she says. The only thing she changed? His name, and just like that, Cody became Carter.

Now 10 years old, Carter is an incredibly sweet dog who loves chasing squirrels, receiving treats, going for walks, and watching television. “When animals, dogs above all, appear on the screen—including cartoon dogs—Carter runs to the television and barks and barks,” Kathleen says. “One evening, he became especially incensed watching a show about cheetahs.”

Even so, Kathleen says that he’s the most chill of any terriers that she’s had, and he’s actually happy to meet all other dogs and people—and is pretty cool with cats too. “Carter is a positive guy who always seeks a ray of sunshine,” she says, “on the carpet and in life.”

Kathleen has been a client of Rainier Veterinary Hospital since 1990, when she moved here from San Francisco with her Welsh Terrier. “I truly appreciated Dr. Heino for all of his heartfelt caring for my terriers,” she says. “I must admit that I was very sad when he retired. However, when Carter recently experienced an unfortunate health issue, Dr. Bolotin showed the same heartfelt care for my pet. That means so much to me!”

And your long-term support of Rainier Vet means so much to us—as does Carter! Thank you, Kathleen!
