Cute Coda!

Jonathan Pease and his 6.5-year-old German Shepherd, Coda, are relatively new to Rainier Veterinary Hospital. But after the harrowing experience that brought them to us, we just had to name Coda our August Dog of the Month.

The two were hiking in the eastern Cascade Mountains, and on the decent from Navaho Peak, Coda injured his paws. “With the help of seven strangers, I was able to get Coda the 5.5 miles down the mountain,” Jonathan explains. “We were able to fashion waterproof padded booties made from a cut up waterproof jacket, extra socks, and gauze from a first aid kit. It was slow going, but we got off the trail at sundown.”

And we’re thrilled to announce that Coda’s paws have healed very well. Jonathan says, “It only took him a few days to be in his regular happy spirits.”

In January 2013, Jonathan adopted Coda from the Humane Society of South Platte Valley, which is just outside of Denver. “When I first got him, a friend suggested that I name him Kona,” he says. “I’m a musician, and phonetically, it reminded me of the term coda, which refers to the ending of a piece of music.”

Coda, who happily answers to Buddy and Goober as well, loves squeaky toys and chasing balls. However, his most favorite thing is pretty simple: chewing on a stick.

Jonathan describes Coda as very sweet and extremely chill. “He will get excited to go on a walk or take a ride in the car,” he says. “But most other times, he’s relaxing on the softest spot he can find.”

We couldn’t agree more, Chris, and we’re so happy to have you and Coda as part of the Rainier Vet family!
