Cat of the Month, August 2018: Yuki
My name is Yuki, and I love to play!!! And I am so happy to be Rainier Veterinary Hospital’s August Cat of the Month (although I am technically still a kitten … who loves to play). I was born on April 19, 2018, and my hoomans tell me that my name is a Japanese girl’s name meaning “happiness” and “snow.” I think it’s a good fit because I sure seem to make them happy. Plus, I like to make it snow by playing with balls of tissue and toilet paper. So much fun!
Sometimes, my hoomans call me Wookie. They say it’s because my fur can get wild and woolly. But when you’re playing and pouncing and running and exploring, that can happen.
What else can I tell you? Did I mention that I love to play? I love batting around flying saucers (my hoomans call them Dixie cups), hunting my prey (“small cloth toys,” they say), and catching the flying birds, which they say are feathers and cork on a string, but I know the truth. My absolute favorite toys on Earth are those tentacles coming off of my hoomans’ arms and legs. They are so much fun to claw and bite! For some reason, my hoomans don’t like it, and they are doing something they call “encouraging me to make better choices.”
One thing that’s certainly helped is that they brought in a new kitten friend for me to play with, and I love playing with her. We roll and pounce around for hours on end. Maybe she’ll be lucky enough to be Cat of the Month soon.
I joined my hoomans when I was just six weeks old. Originally, I lived with an older hooman who couldn’t keep up with my energy. So my new hoomans brought me home, and I have been brightening their lives with joy ever since!
I first met the pawesome doctors at Rainier Vet, who helped me get back on my feet—literally—when I gave myself a foot injury. My hoomans called it “kitten proofing” the house, but I saw it as extra challenges in exploration, and I accepted! Somehow, I managed to hurt my leg. The vets said it was a soft tissue injury, and I had to wear a splint on my leg, which was almost as long as me, and then another cast. For a whole two weeks! That seriously limited my playtime, but I am healed now and back to exploring and playing like nothing happened.
