Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, August 2016: Mufasa

Cat of the Month: August 2016

We’re loving our Cat of the Month program in which each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any kitty patients who visit us during the prior month are eligible. For August 2016, our featured feline is up for adoption and would love to find his forever home.

Mufasa

Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, August 2016: MufasaOne of Rainier Veterinary Hospital’s neighbors had been feeding a stray cat in her yard. The big orange tabby had been hanging around for a couple of weeks, but our neighbor noticed that he had actually stopped eating. And then he seemed very sick and wasn’t moving, so she brought him in right away.

Upon arrival in late June, his long fur was so wild that he resembled a lion. And so he was named Mufasa.

“He smelled really bad,” remembers Reception Elizabeth Downs. “His fur was so matted that we couldn’t even tell his gender. He was microchipped, but it wasn’t registered.”

Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, August 2016: MufasaStaff members gave Mufasa a bath, a shave, and a lot of fluids. The team also drew some blood, which showed slight anemia and a possible inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In the case of IDB, Mufasa’s intestines wouldn’t be able to function properly. So the staff gave him more fluids, a vitamin B-12 injection, and antibiotics. And Mufasa became the king he was destined to be!

“He’s eating really well; actually, he eats everything” Elizabeth says of Mufasa, whose age is estimated at 9–13 years old. ”He’s very cuddly. All he wants to do is snuggle.” Some of Mufasa’s favorite spots are office chairs, blankets on desks, and a warm lap.

Mufasa is up for adoption and would be very happy in a home where he would receive lots of love and attention.
