Joey
Veterinary Assistant
Joey joined our team as a Veterinary Assistant in February 2026, bringing his unwavering dedication and diligent approach to animal welfare to our practice. His drive to help animals shines through in everything he does, both in our hospital and out in the community. This passion began at a young age when, as a high school student, he advocated for pet adoptions in Seattle. After this experience and working with stray dogs and cats in Bolivia, he realized, in college, that he could harness his ambition into a career in veterinary medicine. From barn animal sanctuaries to local and international internships, Joey’s commitment to animals has taken him to many places. Inspired by his internship roles, he developed enrichment ideas, drafted volunteer guides, and assisted with veterinary procedures, all while working with diverse species, including pets and exotics.
Whether assisting with difficult treatments or boosting team spirits, Joey aims to bring both compassion and curiosity to every day. “I seek enjoyment and fulfillment regardless of the patient or clients, as they all have different personalities. There is so much to learn, and the interactions are what I enjoy most, including being on a team and the supportive culture in the clinic,” he shared. Joey plans to become a veterinarian and hopes to one day work in shelter medicine, where he can help a wide variety of species and teach future aspiring veterinary students.
Education
Bachelor of Science, Biology, University of Washington Bothell
Volunteer Work
Since January 2025, Joey has been volunteering his time and expertise at the Sammamish Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit that provides forever homes to neglected, abused, or unwanted barnyard animals. He assists with husbandry, providing compassionate interaction and care to the sanctuary’s pigs, llamas, goats, horses, and cows.
Home Life
When he’s not helping animals, Joey enjoys an active lifestyle and spending time in nature. You can find him hiking on any scenic trail that features a lake, and he loves polar plunging in local lakes. He also enjoys calisthenics, especially handstands, and learning the patient art of whittling.
