Cat of the Month: December 2016

Here’s how our Cat of the Month program work: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any kitty patients who visit us during the prior month are eligible. Meet our December 2016 winner, a silky, speedy, and stealthy little girl.

Sophie Ann

Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, December 2016: Sophie AnnBack on February 4, 2008, Susan Min adopted a sweet little kitty from a local animal shelter. It was hard to believe such a beautiful cat was available, and Susan was happy to have found the kitty, whose name was then Lucinda. Three-year-old Lucinda had been surrendered because her owners were moving into an apartment.

Pretty quickly after bringing Lucinda home, Susan renamed the cat Sophie. “But then she became Sophie Ann, because she’s so silky,” Susan says.

And the staff at Rainier Veterinary Hospital can attest to Sophie Ann’s softness when they see her each week for IV fluids. Sophie Ann, now 11 years old, has feline inflammatory bowel disease as well as hyperthyroid. But with Susan’s regular visits and at-home care, Sophie Ann is doing quite well.

Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, December 2016: Sophie Ann“IBD and a thyroid condition have not slowed her down at all,” Susan says. “She’s now strictly an indoor girl, but that’s mostly to keep her from breaking into other houses and eating neighbor cats’ food.”

In fact, in her outdoor days, this stealthy little kitty could frequently be seen rolling around on the sidewalk, inviting adoration, Susan explains.

Rainier Veterinary Hospital Cat of the Month, December 2016: Sophie Ann“Sophie Ann seems delicate, but she’s quite speedy and is a big climber,” Susan says. When she’s not racing around the house, climbing, and loving both her human and kitty housemates, does Sophie Ann have any favorite toys? That’s easy, Susan says: “Anything that moves.”

Sophie Ann, we’re always thrilled to see you (and Susan) and are so happy to see your continued improvement!
