Cat of the Month, December 2018: Captain
Oh Captain, my Captain… We are pleased to share that this beloved 13-year-old senior kitty is the Rainier Veterinary Hospital December Cat of the Month.
Captain was adopted by his family in September 2017. They’d seen an online post from his foster parent regaling the difficult turn his life took after being hit by a car. “When we saw his picture and saw that he now had only three legs, we knew it was meant to be,” says Captain’s owner Myra Fortin.
Mon capitan (said with a French accent), Baby, Boi, Bubba, Grumpy Boi, Old man, and Fuzzy butt are all just a handful of the many, many nicknames his family calls him to express their love and admiration for this calm, lazy old man.
“Captain would prefer to cuddle in bed all day with my sister and me,” Myra says. “If you’re not in bed or sitting on the couch with him, he will let you know how unhappy he is that he is not being cuddled and adored.”
Captain loves being brushed, playing with his catnip-stuffed banana, and going to town scratching his cardboard cat scratcher couch. Truly enjoying the perfect cat life.
He has been visiting the Rainier Vet team for a little over two years and dropped in last month for his regular teeth cleaning. (Gum and teeth health are so important for cats.)
“Even though Captain lost his leg when he was 10, he has never let it slow him down,” Myra says. “He still plays and acts like any other cat his age. He is the most well-behaved cat we have ever had and are so fortunate to have him in our lives! Thanks for giving Captain the opportunity to be the Cat of the Month and for taking such great care of him.”
About Our Cat of the Month Program
Here’s how our Cat of the Month program works: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any kitty patients who visit us during the prior month are eligible.
