Cat of the Month: January 2017

Here’s how our Cat of the Month program works: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any kitty patients who visit us during the prior month are eligible. Meet our January 2017 winner, a curious yet cautious little kitty.

Samuel

Burmese cats are known for having outgoing personalities and are described as being cuddly and confident. Without question, 4.5-month-old Samuel fits the typical Burmese mold. And after boarding with us at Rainier Veterinary Hospital just twice, he’s quickly become a staff favorite.

Kennel Attendant Todd Hubbard quickly bonded with Samuel, who he describes as being “both curious and cautious at the same time. And he’s super friendly.”

Cliff McKinney, who adopted Samuel in July 2016, describes Samuel in much the same way: “Playful and full of mischief.” In fact, Cliff says that Samuel acts like a little puppy. And perhaps that’s because Samuel’s favorite “toy” is Sadie, Cliff’s Lhasapoo dog.

Named after the prophet Samuel from the Book of Samuel in the Bible, this precocious kitty also goes by Sam—although more nicknames are sure to develop in time.

Samuel visits Rainier Vet for boarding whenever Cliff travels and when asked if Sam enjoys it, Cliff quips: “To date, he has not made any comments, favorable or unfavorable.” 🙂

Rainier Vet’s Elizabeth Downs says that Samuel is very sweet and adaptable. “One of our vet techs used Samuel for a demonstration on restraint techniques in cats,” she says. “It was great in that he was calm and relaxed throughout the demonstration, but because he was so calm, we didn’t learn much on how to ‘restrain’ him.”

And we thank you for that, Sam! Not every kitty is a chill kitty, and we’re so thrilled to have you as part of the Rainier Vet family!
