Cat of the Month, March 2019: Snack

Snack, a 2-½-year-old domestic short hair, might be young, but she’s already had so many grand adventures. With her new home, good health, and family pets by her side, the Rainier Veterinary Hospital March Cat of the Month is ready for so much more.

It's Snack in a sack!

Snack’s owner Joshua Stewart reached out to Seattle Area Feline Rescue (SAFeR), looking for a cat that would get along well with dogs and other cats. This characteristic was important to the Stewart family as their current cat was getting older and not able to play with the dog like it used to when it was young and fit. Time for a new friend to join in the fun and add a spark of life to the house; then they met Snack.

“Turns out, she grew up with four dogs, which was perfect for our active household,” Joshua says. “What was even more surprising was to learn how Snack made it to Seattle! She crossed countries to be here and find her new home.”

Snack found her way to SAFeR via Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. In fact, she was originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, but the owner had to relocate and could not take their rescue animals with them. The previous owner did not want their beloved pets turned back loose on the streets of Kabul, so they reached out to a local dog rescue that specialized in reuniting battle buddies with their soldiers to get Snack and two dogs into shelters in Seattle. This proved to be a life-saving mission for this trio. After spending several weeks in quarantine in Dubai, Snacks and her friends landed in Seattle where they quickly found their forever homes.

“How do we best describe Snack?” Joshua asks. “Loud and intense. A tiny little body full of so much energy. It is so big, it is too much for one household, so we created a Facebook fan page to share her shenanigans with the world (and her rescuer).

Snack-sized, Snack Attack, Snackerdoodle, Snick Snack, and, of course “Damnit Snack,” are all names you can hear called out among the family. All living up to Snack’s larger-than-life personality in her diminutive form. The family says to be prepared for that “Snack Attack” when she gets the wildies!

A true delight, Snack also is very good at making her presence known and demanding the attention she so richly deserves. Whether yelling across the house, jumping on family members’ shoulders, or refusing to get off your lap, Snack makes sure you know that she’s here to stay.

The team at Rainier Veterinary Hospital has been enjoying Snack’s company since she arrived in the United States about a year ago. Recently, she came in for her annual dental exam, which is so important for the overall health of any pet.

“Snack is doing great since her last visit,” Joshua says. “She was super hungry when she got home, and would not stop drunkenly raiding any stray kibbles while mom was trying to clean them up. Typical Snack!”

We look forward to watching Snack grow up and are so very glad she’s now a Pacific Northwest kitty.
