Cat of the Month, September 2018: Scooby-Doo
Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? Well, if you’re anything like the Rainier Veterinary Hospital’s September Cat of the Month, Scooby-Doo, you’re hunting a housefly (and probably eating it), watching squirrels from the window, or racing around the house like the energetic 6-month-old kitten that you are.
You also might think you’re a dog.
“My daughter, Maicee, is really in to the Scooby-Doo shows,” explains owner Liz Hood. “And as it turns out, our Scooby-Doo actually acts like a dog! He likes dog bones, eats lots of human food and our dog’s food, and has a harness and leash to go out exploring. And he loves, loves, loves to chow down like the Scooby-Doo cartoon character!”
Liz and Maicee brought Scooby-Doo home from a kitten adoption at the end of May 2018, when he was just 8 weeks old. “So little and darling,” Liz remembers. “Now a rascally adolescent!”
It’s true: Like most kittens, Scooby-Doo is very active! And so The Hoods have lots of toys to keep him entertained, including laser lights, wool dryer balls, tennis balls, dog toys, Maicee’s toys, even rocks. In addition, the family has just adopted a new dachshund puppy, Clover. “Scooby and Clover are BFFs now,” Liz says. “Except that Scooby is larger and stronger than Clover, and while she loves to play with him too, he just doesn’t know his own strength sometimes. He sure has grown from that tiny, sweet little kitten!”
What helps a kitten grow? Food, and in Scooby-Doo’s case, eating is one of his favorite activities. “He wants to eat whatever we’re eating as well as what the dog is eating, and he scarfs up his wet and dry food quite heartily,” Liz says. “His favorite thing might possibly be bacon.”
Perhaps his appetite has earned Scooby-Doo a few of his nicknames, including the Beast. But other nicknames seem to just come naturally—Scooberto, Scoobs, Wildman, Fly Hunter, Bert, Bertie, and Bertson.
But don’t let Scooby-Doo’s wild nature fool you; he has an incredibly sweet side. “He loves to cuddle, and he love it when we talk to him—he just purrs and purrs,” Liz says. “He’s pretty vocal himself. In fact, when he was at Rainier Vet to be neutered, the staff said he was the most talkative cat there for the day.”
He absolutely was, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Scooby-Doo is a delight, and we’re so glad that you are all part of the Rainier Vet family.
