Rotten? Me? Never!

Will Crawford’s aunt knew that he was looking to adopt a dog. And so she found him one at the shelter where she frequently volunteers … in Lufkin, Texas. She sent Will pictures of a sweet pup named Johnny, and Will was sold! In August 2015, Will’s aunt drove Johnny to Fort Worth, where Will flew in through his employer, American Airlines. Will and Johnny flew back the next day and have been together ever since.

“He is very friendly, to both humans and other dogs,” Will says of 4-year-old Johnny, the Rainier Veterinary Hospital July Dog of the Month. “Anytime we’re out, he must greet everyone.”

And being outside is one of Johnny’s two most favorite things in the world, the other being curled up on the bed.

Johnny is a Beagle mix, but the “mix” is unclear. The Texas shelter thought Johnny could be part Entlebucher Mountain Dog, and Will thinks Johnny might have a little Siberian Husky as well.

How did Johnny get his name? “It was his name at the shelter,” Will says. “I’ve always loved human names for dogs, so I kept it.”

And that’s what he’s usually called. Unless, Will says, the pooch is acting up. “Then he’s Johnny Rotten.”

But we doubt that happens very often. We love you, Sweet Johnny!

About Our Dog of the Month Program

How our Dog of the Month program works: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any pup who visits us during the prior month is eligible.

Johnny is such a great dog. He just walked right on the elevator with me to stay at hotel while we waited for Will to come in. He slept quietly by the bed and was totally housebroken.

Will is lucky I did not just keep him, but I know he has the best home! – Will’s Aunt
