Dog of the Month, November 2018: Rosie
November is known for many things, including elections, and every four years is a presidential election. So it’s fitting to have Rainier Veterinary Hospital’s November Dog of the Month be named after a president. Meet Roosevelt, a 3-year-old Shar-Pei mix who goes by Rosie. Although his original name was Reagan, owners Kristin Engelbrecht and Sarah were eager to change it. (We won’t get into the political reasons here. 😉 )
“We decided that he could still be presidential,” Kristin says, “and he’s really the best parts of FDR, Eleanor, and Teddy, three of my favorite Americans.” But Rosie isn’t all politics—he has a handful of fun nicknames, including The Raisin, Stinkfish, Rosie Boy, Mr. Baby, and Ding Dong.
In February 2016, Kristin and Sarah adopted Rosie from the Kitsap Humane Society, and he’s been deeply connected to both of them ever since. “He is a real lover,” Kristin says. “He loves people and kids and his sistercat, Cairo.”
Favorite food items of Rosie’s include cheese, pepperoni, and sweet potatoes. And, sadly, a non-food favorite? Kristin’s boots.
Kristin and Rosie have another favorite in common. “He loves to run trails, but he is also exceptionally lazy,” she says. “It’s pretty hard to get him out of bed in the morning and, like me, he loves to nap.”
Rosie recently visited Rainier Vet for a skin check, and we’re thrilled to say that he’s doing well. Rosie has been a patient with us since the day Kristin and Sarah brought him home, and we’re so happy to have all of you as part of our family.
About Our Dog of the Month Program
How our Dog of the Month program works: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any pup who visits us during the prior month is eligible.
