"Can we play now?" Eliot asks.

In April 2006, Liz Guinn was living in Virginia and was moving into her first apartment. As a birthday present, Liz’s mom found a Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher puppy through Petfinder.com, and it was a perfect match. Eliot—named after one of Liz’s favorite poets, T.S. Eliot—has been by the English major’s side ever since, including several long-distance moves.

“We moved from my hometown in Virginia to Idaho (her first time on an airplane) and then to Seattle (she was very patient on the 15-hour car trip), and she has been my companion through it all,” says Liz, who has been bringing Eliot to Rainier Veterinary Hospital since moving to Seattle two years ago.

Now 12 years old, Eliot is a very sweet and loving dog. “She loves people and always wants to cuddle with and give kisses to our guests when we have company,” Liz says. However, Eliot’s favorite spot? Close to Mom—“and as much as possible,” Liz says.

Another favorite of Eliot’s is a plush squirrel, which Liz and her husband have replaced many times over the past 12 years. “She also likes to hang out in the kitchen when I’m cooking, especially chicken, to smell our dinner,” Liz says. “Eliot is ever the optimist, even though human food is a rare treat.”

A few years ago, Eliot was introduced to a new “friend” when Liz and her husband adopted a kitten. “Eliot wasn’t sure what to think at first,” Liz says, “but now they get along and like to tease each other and compete for the comfiest spots in the house.”

But the most comfortable spot, of course, is with Liz, who still calls Eliot “Puppy” and “Baby Girl.” “Even though she’s a little old lady, she will always be my baby!”

And the sweetest baby she is! We love seeing Eliot and helping this senior dog stay as healthy as possible for a long time.

About Our Dog of the Month Program

How our Dog of the Month program works: Each staff member provides a nomination for the distinguished honor, and then we vote. The highest vote wins! Any pup who visits us during the prior month is eligible.
